Lake Musconetcong is a lake in Netcong that is fed from Lake Hopatcong. For several years it has been taken over by water chestnut and the DEP has been trying to find a solution. These water chestnuts grow out of control very quickly and are a threat to several types of endangered plants that grow in the lake. They have also been causing a big mosquito problem from the overgrowth in weeds. Many people are concerned that they will find their way into Lake Hopatcong. If you see the water chestnut in Lake Hopatcong, please report it immediately to the Hopatcong State Park. The water chestnut can grow over 100 acres in one year, so it can be a big problem if it spreads into the lake.
